Frederica Reintroduces Sofie Østerby’s Hydro Vase

Nov 21, 2023

In 2020, Frederica tapped Danish designer Sofie Østerby to create the Hydro vase for its Complements line, a series of objects created in collaboration with emerging designers in Denmark and abroad that are intended to complement Frederica's line of furniture. The Hydro Vase was originally cast in solid brass that oxidized to a black finish. It has now been extended to include a new version – the Hydro Glass Vase – that's made of mouth-blown crystalline glass.

The silhouette of the vase was inspired by classic ceramic vases, ancient Greek vessels, and traditional pottery. For Østerby, timelessness, texture, and material nature are all important factors in her creative design process. With the new transparent material, the Hydro vase is a modern take on a centuries-old art form.
