Original Oklahoma state Capitol saucer dome to go on display to public in 2022

The Oklahoma State Capitol is more than 100 years old, but the dome that sits on top is just 19 years old as it was installed in 2002.
Officials said the original glass saucer dome will go on display next year.
If you're fairly new to Oklahoma, you may be surprised to know the state Capitol used to have a flat roof. The current dome is about 85 years younger than the building itself.
When the new dome was added 19 years ago, the original flat-stained glass was removed and put into storage. Now, crews are reinstalling that original piece inside the new visitor's entrance on the ground floor as part of the Capitol Restoration Project.
"To preserve this building for future generations of Oklahomans is very, very important," said Trait Thompson, executive director of the Oklahoma Historical Society. "And that's why we're thrilled that we can bring back some of those original elements to the building that have been covered over time or have been used and abused. And we can restore them, make them beautiful again, and the people of Oklahoma can enjoy them."
By the time the project is finished, the entire Capitol building will be restored, including new plumbing, new electrical, new lighting, new elevators and so much more.
The massive project is in its seventh year and is slated to be finished in early 2022.
