The Best Way To Clean Glass Jars

The humble glass jar is one of Team Delish's favorite kitchen tools. It's the perfect vessel for shaking up homemade salad dressings, storing leftovers, and making batch of homemade chili oil. The only downside is the cleanup: Sometimes our cooking projects leave behind a greasy residue that our hands and sponges can't reach. And if you don't have a dishwasher, it feels like the residue is impossible to clean.

If you've ever struggled to wipe the oil out of glass jars, you can finally get them squeaky clean with a dishwashing hack from our very own June Xie. Her method couldn't be any simpler and doesn't require any special tools.

First, you need to rinse out the jar twice with hot water to loosen up the grease. Then add a pump of dish soap and fill the jar about a quarter of the way with more hot water.

The next step doubles as an arm workout. Tighten the lid and shake the jar like a soapy Shakeweight. The suds will clean out any residual oil without any scrubbing. Once you rinse out the remaining bubbles, your jar will be squeaky clean and ready to use again.
