The long-awaited day is very nearly here: the Opal bar and adjoining Omerta American-Italian restaurant officially begin welcoming guests tomorrow, August 8, at 614 SW Park Ave. As first reported by Eater in June, Opal and Omerta come from Microwave Hospitality, a new restaurant group involving ChefStable's Kurt Huffman (Ox, Loyal Legion) and members of the Lightning Bar Collective (Bye and Bye, Jackknife).
Get a sneak peek inside 1000-square-foot Opal in the photos above (see Omerta's dark, den-like interior here).
From the neighboring Omerta kitchen, led by chef Mark Barrett, Opal will serve things like breakfast bowls and burritos in the morning, starting at 6:30 a.m., to locals and guests of the Dossier Hotel alike. Lunch begins at 11 a.m., and the "all-day" menu runs from 3 p.m. to close, offering a number of classic pasta dishes; there are both vegan and beef-y burgers, as well, the latter served with fennel relish and young parmesan on a rosemary bun.
Jackknife bartender Justin Diaz designed the cocktail menu. The "Sweet Pea" comes with Olmeca Altos Tequila, creme de peche, yellow Chartreuse, lime, olive oil, and egg whites, and the "Bourbon Revival" mixes Elijah Craig whiskey with ginger-pomegranate syrup, and lime, with a grapefruit twist. The cocktails run between $12 and $14.
