DFW Beer Bar’s Inane Presidential Poll Cups Poke Fun at Joe Biden’s Stutter

Jul 08, 2023

Flying Saucer's election-themed cups also refer to Trump as a "very stable genius," in the name of "balance"

As it has in election years prior, Fort Worth-born beer bar Flying Saucer is polling its patrons on who they’re voting for in this year's presidential race with pint glasses, one of which ridicules Democratic nominee Joe Biden's speech disorder.

The red and blue glasses, which sell for $15 each at the bar or $20 online, are emblazoned with drawings of the candidates, and patrons choose which one to buy based on the candidate they voted for. On the back of the glass featuring President Donald Trump, Flying Saucer pokes fun at Biden's speech by stating that the president is facing "Stuttering Joe." On the opposite of Biden's glass, it reads "versus a very ‘stable genius.’" There is also, for whatever reason, an image of the parties’ logos humping each other.

The reference to "Stuttering Joe" is, of course, drawn from comments made by Trump mocking Biden for his stutter at a rally in Las Vegas in February. Biden has spoken at length over the past few decades about his experience with stuttering as a child and young man and into his political career.

It's not an uncommon joke for Trump and his supporters to make, either. Trump campaign surrogate Lara Trump has also made offensive comments about Biden's stutter, as has former White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.

In an interview with the Dallas Morning News, Flying Saucer owner Shannon Wynne claimed that the cups were designed to not stir up controversy. "You have to strike a balance that's not offensive," Wynne said. "They had to be equally bad." That's a weird sentiment, especially considering that having a stutter and being a megalomaniac who sends out inane tweets in defense of their own purported intelligence are, in fact, not equally bad.

According to Wynne, Trump is currently ahead in the bar's poll of about 2,500 patrons.
