Kmart fan's $6.50 DIY engagement party detail stuns: 'Gorgeous'

Planning any type of party can be costly, but one clever bride-to-be has saved hundreds of dollars thanks to some smart thinking and a quick trip to Kmart.

Posting pictures of her elegant engagement party set up on Instagram, Genevieve, who hails from Canberra, explained that she created her dream event with a little help from the budget retailer.

"Honestly can someone take me back to this night, please?! So grateful to finally celebrate our engagement with our friends and family," she wrote alongside pictures of the stunning set-up.

"Also couldn't do it without my @kmartaus fam, going above and beyond to help me style it!"

Styling the event with neutral tones, she used a range of candles and vases to create a sophisticated, relaxed vibe using items starting from just $6.50.

The budget Kmart decor items she used to deck out her event included the brass look Glass Tealight Holder for $6.50, the Brass Look Glass Pillar Candle Holder for $8, the two-pack Glass Tealight Holders for $6.50 and the Unscented Candles pack of 12 for $7.

She also used the new Urn Shaped Vase for $15, which she displayed on natural Travertine stone and the two-tier Rimmed Pillar Serving Stand for $29, which she used to hold cookie party favours.

After sharing her event with her 12,600 followers, many were left super impressed with the luxe-look event. "How absolutely gorgeous! Huge Congratulations," one person wrote. "Everything was AMAZING! Bring on the wedding indeed!" Added another. "Love everything about this!" commented a third.

Genevieve isn't the only one styling her wedding events with Kmart items. Dozens of brides seem to be jumping on the budget wedding bandwagon, creating bridal centre pieces and bouquets using Kmart artificial flower bunches at a fraction of the price they're available for elsewhere.

One woman said she spent less than $40 to create bouquets and decorate her entire reception. "I thought I would share what my matron of honour and I did with $38 worth of flowers from Kmart," she said.

"We pulled apart six bunches and managed to make two bouquets, decorated the cake and decorated the reception."

Others shared that they'd used Kmart flowers to decorate their wedding cake and the reception too, using the artificial flower range that costs between $5.50 and $12 per bunch.
