S&T Bank is fighting childhood cancer ‘one cup at a time’

May 06, 2023

On hot June day, a cold, glass of lemonade would be refreshing. What if that glass of lemonade not only tasted good, but did good, as well?

S&T Bank is inviting customers and community members to visit one of its branch locations in central and southeastern Pennsylvania from June 3 through 10 to participate in a fundraising effort to benefit the Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF).

S&T Bank branch locations five Pennsylvania counties are participating in Lemonade Days, an annual, nationwide event to raise money for childhood cancer research and to raise awareness of Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation.

During the week, S&T's 21 branches in central and southeastern Pennsylvania, which includes Chester, Cumberland, Dauphin, Delaware, Lancaster and Philadelphia counties, will host lemonade stands during business hours. S&T Bank has 11 branches in Chester County, one branch in Delaware County, three branches in Lancaster County and two branches in Philadelphia County.

Customers and community members are encouraged to stop by for a glass of lemonade and to make a donation to Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation and support the research and efforts to minimize pediatric cancer, the bank said in an emailed response to questions.

The lemonade stands will be staffed by S&T Bank branch employees, and according to a spokesman, the stands will be set up outside if the weather is nice.

"S&T Bank is honored to participate in ALSF's Lemonade Days to help in the fight against pediatric cancer," Jason Forman, director of consumer banking for S&T Bank, said in a statement. "These small acts of kindness can lead to big results, and we hope our communities will join us to help make a difference."

The nonprofit Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation's mission is to "change the lives of children with cancer by funding impactful research, raising awareness, supporting families and empowering everyone to help cure childhood cancer."

"This is a tangible example of S&T team members making people our purpose and going above and beyond to build a better future together," Chris McComish, chief executive officer of S&T Bank, said in a statement. "I’m proud to see our teams proudly participating in this nationwide event."

This is the first year S&T Bank has partnered with Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation. In the emailed response, the bank said it decided to partner with the organization because it is a great cause for S&T to support to impact future generations. On its website, S&T said its goal is to raise $25,000.

Lemonade Days started in 2000 when 4-year-old Alex Scott, who was battling cancer, held her first fundraiser for childhood cancer, raising more than $2,000, according to information on the ALSF website. By the time she passed away in 2004 at age 8, she had raised $1 million for her doctors to help kids like her fight cancer. Inspired by her actions, people across the country hosted their own stands. The tradition has continued, and to date the foundation has raised more than $250 million for childhood cancer and provided funding for more than 1,000 research projects.

"We are delighted that S&T Bank chose to join us for Lemonade Days this June. Their team members and customers will truly help us make a difference for kids with cancer," Liz Scott, Alex's mom and co-executive director of Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, said in a statement.

For those who can't visit one of S&T Bank's lemonade stands during the week but want to donate, online donations will be accepted at Alex's Lemonade Stand. To learn more about the event and find a participating S&T branch, visit stbank.com/ALSF.
